Poo-Poo lives next door to me... His mistress was arrested for grand theft auto... The children were taken away by family... Poo-Poo, Lucky, and the puppies were left running around in the yard or locked in the house - no-one to care for them.

Today, as I am writing this, is June 21, 2000... The quintet of dogs troubles began almost one month ago... Everyone they had grown to know and trust had just left them to fend for themselves. They had left Poo-Poo chained on a four foot chain to a tree in the front yard but Poo-Poo broke it and was running around the neighborhood dragging the chain. My husband was able to get ahold of her and get the chain off so she wouldn't get choked or stuck somewhere where no-one knew she was. Poo-Poo had come to live with the family about 2 - 3 months earlier when it's original owner did not want it anymore. Now, once again, Poo-Poo is abandoned. Poo-Poo won't let me near her even though I've been feeding her and talking to her every day. She doesn't bark and growl anymore like she used to but she keeps her distance, if I get too close to her she will give me a warning growl.,,

The puppies happily play together, they are oblivious to what is going on in their lives, they only know they have their sisters to play with and that this strange human is taking care of them now instead of the other humans. When I first got them they could only be 2 - 3 months old at the most, weened not too long before.

Lucky is an old dog with cataracts who is nearly blind. She would never let me touch her before. I always found her to be a nuisance becuase she was always barking. Anything and everything was to be barked at. A leaf fell! BARK! I hear a car! BARK! Was that a person? BARK! But, I found her to be a gentle loving animal once I got to know her.

Update 8/10/00: Well, Poo-Poo has disappeared... I went to feed her one day and she was gone... Animal control never picked her up... I don't know if she ran away or if her owners came and got her (which I doubt very much)... Perhaps she went looking for her owners... I do know that they came by hoping for the old mans social security checks (I had told the mailman they didn't live there anymore and he stopped delivering the mail) and when they left poor Poo-Poo would run desperately after their car... Broke my heart to see that... Did they laugh at Poo-Poo? Think it was funny as the dog ran after them, wanting them to love her and protect her? No matter how hard I tried, Poo-Poo never let me get near her, if she had, she would have known love... Even now, over a month after I realized she was gone, I still look for her and hope she came back for some reason... How will she survive? HOW?

Update 9/2/00: The house that the dogs lived in has been condemned as not being fit to live in... I need to get a picture of that sign and post it here... I wonder if the home will be demolished soon... We didn't have to call about the house and the way it looked... The city had their workers come and mow the lawn and the next day the sign was up... Why is it that the house was more important to post about than helping the dogs?
