Each month people send in spots to the mailing list for others to "play" with. Spot files are the files that the program Fractal Explorer generates when you save a fractal. It is this spot file that you open in order to continue your work on a fractal, and it may have the extension .fri, .fr3. .fr4, or .frs. You are able to then send the spot file to someone else, or you may save them on disk for future use.

People are being generous when they send in a spot file for others to use. Many spots have several hours of work behind them. Some spots may have been worked on by several people before they were forwarded to the list; some spots are different renditions of the same spot that was sent through the list. When using these spot files, please be kind and do not claim them as your own; until they are modified they are copyrighted to the person who sent them in. Once you have significantly manipulated a spot you are then able to claim it as your own.

As a little FYI, this list actually started as a Yahoo Egroup in November 2001, but became its own "entity" in March 2002. Before March 2002 the files were not categorized by the month and therefore are "clumped" together as one file. However, not all the files sent in to the list are included since it is felt that only mailing list members should have access to them... Instead, this page contains a selection of spots per month that have been sent in by our members for visiting non-members to use and learn from... Often times a spot file is a very good starting point for someone who is new to the program or for someone who is having a "dry spell" (similar to writer's block only it's fractal block!)...

The spot files have been "zipped" as a self-extracting archive so that you do not need to have an unzipping program. When you open this program it will ask you where you wish to save your files; be sure to click on the browse button and choose a folder. As always, check all executable files with a virus program before running it - for your computer's well-being! If you do not own a virus program then you may obtain a free one at
